SHOULD ARTISTS MAKE THEIR OWN WORK?

The question 'should artists make their own work?' is a controversial one as initially most people would assume that artists should and do produce their own artworks; however, when argued against certain constraints such as timescales, size and budget it becomes more understandable why artists may require extra help in creating their masterpieces.

Jeff Koons is arguably the richest artist in the world. He is renowned for designing a great diversity of art in a variety of medias, including: sculptures, paintings and videos. His most famous pieces of art are plausibly his 'balloon' sculptures - made of stainless steel and painted to resemble giant balloon animals.

In my opinion, I don't think that artists should have to produce their own work when it comes to productions of a large scale, as long as they direct their vision. That I see it as being similar to directing a film - the director isn't expected to film, act and edit it however all the contributors that make the film follow the directors vision and instruction, I don't see why an art piece should be different.
