Light Trails

Light trailing is a technique used in photography to produce different artistic images. They are created by using a slower shutter speed, and most commonly a still subject e.g a person or a car.

The use of the slow shutter speed (30s) allows the camera to capture the light as it travels. This can be used to create pictures within the photograph; to create a stylised background for an image; to capture existing light within a moving Image (e.g moving headlights or fireworks).

To produce the images shown above we used a dark room and a variety of different light sources. We used volunteers to keep still within the photograph and practiced different techniques and processes for each photo.

I found this learning experience enjoyable because no two images turned out identical as the process was very experimental. I find the unique outcomes helped educate us on the technique as after each shot we could physically see the aspects that turned out well and where/how to improve the image.
